I also have seen Bombay, New Delhi, Agra, Goa and Rajasthan. I came across some notes I kept to share with you all from my trips!

- Do you have germ-a-phobia? If so don't bother to go, you won't survive.
- Bring plenty of insect repellent. Avoiding a mosquito bite could save your life. Use the type of repellent that has Deet. My doctor said it's the first defense against disease.
- A Fly swatter could help take care of Mosquito when they take over the car or outhouse.
-If you are American Bring toilet paper or small packs of tissue. You can buy it here but it's not a common item. You will need it at least until you get used to using your hand. Also with using your hand pick one and stick with it, you need the other hand to eat.
-Remember a plug adapter, I forgot mine and it was a huge pain in the butt to try sharing
one.
- Wear flip flops or sandals that don't require much effort to take off or put on. Indians don't wear shoes in homes or most stores.
-Learn a couple words in the local language. I didn't and was lost in most conversations. I was also very limited because I had to wait for someone to translate for me to use the toilets or shop. I did plan to use a translator app but my tablet has been dead for a few days now...back to my tip about a plug adapter!

- When going shopping know that Indian people are into presentation, you will be there a while. Sit down, cross your legs Indian style and get comfy.
- If you have big feet or are plus size don't bother going shop to shop looking for things the selection will be very limited just get it made. There are at least two tailors on each block. They can make clothes or shoes in 24 to 48 hours turnaround time. Its not very expensive either considering $1 is equal to about 54 rupee. I wear a size 10 shoes which translates to a size 41 in India. I did end up finding shoes but it took forever to find. I really wanted a dress but it was hard to find a nice one in my size. When I did find one the pants to it where to small to cover my lady lump.
- Taste the flavors of India. I was worried about finding food. I ended up liking almost everything I tried. Most Indians are vegetarian but I did find some chicken! My favorite dish was Kaju Curry. That's cashews cooked in curry seasoning. You can eat it with roti or rice.

I know its been a while since I have posted. Sometimes you are moving so fast you forget to stop and smell the roses or take a deep breath and appreciate all of the beauty surrounding you. This year I made first trip to Montreal Canada and Amsterdam, Netherlands! I have also been back to both Abidjan, Cote D'Ivoire and Paris, France twice. I enjoy every excursion but the most rewarding trip was the one to Paris in May. Why you ask? My mother always dreamed of going to Paris and I was so proud that I could make that dream come true! A weekend in Paris just so mom could lay her eyes on the Eiffel Tower and celebrate her 67th birthday!!! We stayed the beautiful Hotel Kleber; a cozy, lavish, old town style, fairy-tale like hotel near Champs Élysées, Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower. The place was a bit pricey considering I am normally a budget traveler and can always find a couch to crash on! It ran about $150 usd a night with is fair for Paris especially for a double room with a Jacuzzi and a balcony! I didn't mind because I just wanted mom to be comfortable. They had great customer service, it was very clean and the decor was breathtaking! Continental breakfast was included with my room. The dining areas tables were set with glass dishes and silverware! There was a huge spread to choose from american style and European style breakfast variety! Checkout their website HERE! Check out the pics below... You can also watch my video from youtube https://youtu.be/qELgpfNvYrs

I just got back from Incredible India! There so much to see and do there! I traveled around the country quite a bit in two weeks. One of the places I stayed was the the Pearl Hotel in Paharganj, New Delhi. It's a 3 star property with a lot of charm! I had a great stay at this hotel the staff was friendly and helpful. I booked this hotel on booking.com. They hotel called me direct the same day to find out if I needed the free pick up from the airport and immediately arranged for a driver. They also let me know I would be responsible to pay the parking fee for the driver. My cell service was not very clear but the hotel staff did the courtesy of texting me to confirm someone would meet me upon arrival. The driver was there waiting for me at The Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport. He was very resourceful giving us tips on things to do and places to shop. When we arrived at the hotel the bell man came and took the bags inside before I could get all the way out of the van. We were greeted well by the front desk and escorted to our room. The bell man had a hard time setting up the free wifi for us he went back downstairs three times until it worked. The staff was very good about making sure our needs were met!

My travels have taken me to Abidjan in the Ivory Coast (Cote D'Ivoire) of West Africa! I am on a tour with Exul Voyage travel company! I ran into a few stumbling blocks along the way. I hope your experience will be seamless so here are some tips to help you along the way!

For US citizens make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months pass your date of entry. A visa is required! Try to do your Visa application at least three to four weeks in advance. Click here for passport requirements! (Non US passport holders please check requirements for your country online.) I did it one week in advance and ran into some minor issues. That cost me a day of my vacation. Making changes to your flight reservation can be very costly! You can save time and possibly money to get your visa upon arrival but you will need to do the application process online before arriving. Click here to learn more about visas upon arrival! Exul Voyage is more than happy to set up the visa and yellow fever vaccination on arrival.

Get Yellow fever vaccination one month in advance. Your primary care provider, travel medicine clinic or local urgent care may be able to administer it. Also check with your medical insurance to find out if they will cover yellow fever vaccine. Mine did and that saved me from $125 -$350 dollars.
You must bring your yellow vaccine card to prove you have received it or you will be forced to take one in the airport upon arrival.

Learn a few French words, it will help tremendously because most Ivorians don't speak English. No matter where in the world you go a Hello, goodbye or thank you shows respect and goes a long way!
The currency is CFA; $100 USD = about 60,000 CFA ( yes, when you exchange money you'll feel rich!) It's best to exchange money in Cote D'Ivoire. Your host would be able to help with getting the best exchange rate!
When shopping Negotiate!!! You can get a better price if you try. Never settle for the first price you are given.

What to Pack
Tissue, it always comes in handy! (I like the small packaged ones that are normally sold in a bundle of six)
Washcloths (Like many other places in the world they don't use them)
Insect repellent
Hand Sanitizer
Luggage lock (pilferage is common in France and Africa)
Lightweight clothes (it's always hot in Africa)
Have suitable shoes, sneakers for walking, flip flops for the beach, dress shoes for dancing, etc. Africans are some of the most fashionable people I know and you will have a couple nights out on the town!
Don't bring your brand new sneakers many places you walk will be in the dirt.
A pouch or purse that goes around your waist or over your head so you can keep your valuables close when shopping in the market place.
Bathing suit and beach towel.
Snacks

Be prepared to wash your clothes out by hand if you want to wear them again. There are very few options for public laundry. Most clothes are washed by hand and laid on ground or hung on clothing lines to dry.
Let me mention that part of the tour will include a visit to a small school at Brahimakro Villiage. They operate without electricity or running water. As a donation please bring school supplies for the children there each classroom holds 30 - 40 students. Any donation is greatly appreciated!

I hope these tips will put your mind at ease as you prepare for your trip!
Happy Travels!!!

Sometimes you just have to know where to look; other times you may just stumble upon it. I have found really good food in places where it was least expected and it's normally off the beaten path! During my latest weekend getaway to Bermuda; I was on a hunt to find the best Traditional Bermudian Style Sunday breakfast on the island! I stumbled upon Kenny's Kitchen which was noted as the best place for Codfish and Potatoes according to the locals! The interesting part is Kenny's Kitchen is actually a catering company that only serves restaurant style meals on Sunday mornings at the Ex-Artilleryman's Club. It is located at 72 Victoria Street in Hamilton, Bermuda. I had a large plate of salted codfish and potatoes sauteed in butter onion sauce and topped with onions (and I add hot sauce).
This traditional dish is served with a hard boiled egg, and avocado pear, cornbread and a banana. They also serve the codfish and potatoes covered in tomato sauce; which is the true traditional way to eat it! A small plate is $15 and a large $17 dollars. The amount of food piled in my to go plate was enough for two people to share. There are a few table to sit and eat at the Ex-Artilleryman's club but I would suggest you take it to go! The rest of the week Kenny's Kitchen caters for groups of 5 to 500. The catering menu is very extensive and covers breakfast, lunch dinner and desserts. Let them cater your next business meeting, wedding or event in Bermuda! Contact information and menus can be found on their website at http://www.kennyscatering.bm/. I love Bermuda but it is a very expensive place to visit or live! I have been there so many times I can't count them to give you an accurate number. In all of those visits I've only stayed in two hotels and mostly with friends. This last trip I turned to Airbnb for vacation rentals. To my surprise there are many reasonably priced vacation homes and rooms compared to hotel rates in Bermuda. I chose to stay at Sunset Paradise Bermuda Vacation Rental! The host V.G. Charlatta was very informative. She responded promptly to my questions and was always prepared to help! Her Airbnb page was very detailed and answered most of my questions. She offers a one bedroom apartment with a full size futon in the living room. Four people could sleep there comfortably. The decor is bright, happy and clean just like the Bermudian vibe.
It is located in Hamilton Parish close to the bus stop, gas station, grocery store post office and a couple restaurants.

You could walk to Shelly Bay Beach in about 10 minutes! The bus can take you east to the caves, Swizzle Inn, Grotto Bay Resort, the airport and St George's area. Or you can take the bus to the west to the Aquarium, Shelly Bay Beach, more resturants or Downtown Hamilton. There is a bus transfer center in Hamilton or you can utilize the ferry to see other parts of the Island! Ms. Charlatta provided information about all these things at the Apartment. She also provided a rules and information book! She also allowed us privacy. I only saw her once and she lives upstairs. She came by the night we arrived to make sure we were settled and every was ok! I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Paradise Bermuda Vacation Rental! I look forward to spending my next Bermuda vacation there!
Why another slave movie? These were my first thoughts as I sat in the screening room at Magno screening in Manhattan to watch "The Birth of A Nation". This story is not one learned about in that one month dedicated black history. Nor would you ever read about it in your America history book. I applaud the cast for their performance in this production. They did a great job of depicting life in that era. The movie evoked a lot of emotion for me. It showed rape, beatings and hangings; things that we would rather forget about. Some scenes truly brought tears to my eyes. While other scenes made me almost angry enough to fight. I also question the silencing and exploitation of women in this movie. Let's also remember women played a huge role in the fight for freedom. The story line unveiled love, oppression, dehumanization, despair, and rebellion.

The Birth of A Nation was written and directed by Nate Parker. Parker was also the Star as the character Nat Turner an enslaved, African American preacher who lead the slave revolution of 1831. I was prompted to read about Nat Turner because I saw this movie. I can not attest to the accuracy of the actual historical events verses those in the movie. We all know nothing is ever 100% accurate. However the movie was well put together.

The Birth of A Nation tells the life story of Nat Turner who as a slave child learned to read. His gift of reading led him to being taught the bible by the slave masters wife. Turner's slave master took him on the road preaching to slaves throughout Virginia to discourage a revolt. During that time Nat witnessed the unjust and inhumane treatment of slaves at other plantations. It saddened and ignited anger in him. Then his wife was brutally attacked. He began to have visions and felt he was called by God to fight. What he did next changed history! I will not spoil the ending for you. I would suggest you go see the movie if you can stand a little violence. Take your children. Have open discussion about how far America has come, where we need to go and the sacrifices made for the freedom of Black America!

1) Always pay attention to your surroundings! A predator likes to attack people who are preoccupied!

2) Don't make it obvious you are alone, in conversation mention you are waiting for some one or meeting a friend. When doing tours spark a conversation and attach yourself to a group or another person traveling alone.

3) Don't wear expensive jewelry or carry excess amounts of cash.

4) Do research on where you are going, get as much information as possible to avoid being lost. This will also help give the perception that you are comfortable in your surroundings!

5) If someone is watching you watch them back or ask someone a general question and point in their direction. They will most likely feel put on the spot and leave because they see you are aware of their lurking. If you feel threatened tell someone, cause a scene or start yelling or talking loudly.

6) Don't go out late at night. If you must; utilze taxi or pre- arranged car service. Tell a friend or family member where you are.

8) Always keep you valuables close. Don't carry all your money, credit cards & passports in same place. Use handbags that can go over your head and/or under your top layer of clothes. Many hotels offer lockers. Utilize them to keep your things safe!

The staff was very nice, knowledgeable and attentive to our needs. I e-mailed them in advance with questions and they provided me with very detailed responses that were very helpful for my journey! I took a taxi from the airport to Bambu Mini Hostel. I knew what transportion was available and how much it would cost because of the information I recieved from the hostel. It was about a 20 minute ride. We were stopped to pay an entry tax. So don't be suprised by that. It was less than $2 usd.
Upon arrival at Bambu Mini Hostel I observed they were located next to a police station, so I knew we were in a safe place. A few blocks away there was a gas station, resturants and shops.
The bright colorful decor of the building gave it a very young and hip feel! I loved that they had a hammock right outside of their front door! We arrived a few hours too early for check in. They were able to accommodate us with locked storage space for our luggage and set up our tours and taxis. It was also very helpful that most of the staff spoke English and they accepted US dollars!
They offer free Wi-Fi and free continental breakfast! The rooms were spacious and clean. You can rent a bed with shared bathrooms or opt to spend a little more for a private ensuite! We chose the ensuite which had one double bed when we arrived. It ran us about $50 Usd a night. I asked about a room with two twin beds. They had someone quickly accommodate us by dividing the double into two twin beds!
One night we decided to stay in for dinner. They offer a few stir fry options and pizza at their bar! We also got a free welcome drink!!! I had a chicken stir-fry with noodles that was delicious and very inexpensive!
I found this place on hostelworld.com! What a great choice! Thanks to all the staff especially Valerie and Ivan for their help and patience!!! They strive to make your stay affordable and enjoyable! Check out their website for more information!!!

I didn't want to spend too much money so I checked online for hotels with hotels.com, Hotwire, Expedia and Orbitz. I was looking for a beach front property close to the airport or Isla Verdes preferably with a pool for less than $100 bucks a night. Through Orbitz I ended up selecting Atlantic Beach Hotel in Condado for $79 per night. I'm my haste I did not realize they did not have a pool. I liked that they were 4.5 miles from the airport, it's only about a 15 minute ride. They do not offer transportation so the taxi was $20 bucks. I arrived at the hotel about 12 noon. Getting out of the taxi I felt this place could be a little sketchy a small cream colored building with the name written down the side with a few missing blue letters. It is located a the end of a small side street.

Upon entering the hotel I really liked the Caribbean feel of an open lobby with a phenomenal view of the beach, sheer curtains blowing in the wind and plenty comfortable seating to just relax and take in the view. The room was not ready because check in was not until 4pm. The desk attendant was very resourceful and offered suggestions on places to get lunch while I waited for my room to be cleaned. He allow me to leave my luggage in the lobby. I used the bathroom in that area and got really scared about the possible condition of my room because that was smelly and not well kept.

I returned after lunch and relaxed on a comfy couch enjoying the lobby view. My room was ready about two hours before check in. They allowed me to go to my room early. They still use actual keys on key chains for the rooms. It was small, clean and very basic. There were two modern style twin beds with brown wooden frames and white linens. There was also a flat screen TV, a small white dresser and a black nightstand with a lamp between the beds. The bathroom was modern with a stone finished standing shower. Shampoo and body wash dispensers were provided in the shower. (Sorry I didn't get photos of the actual room.) They had a very old elevator I tripped every time I got out because it didn't line up evenly with the floor. I took the stars a lot because I thought I might actually get trapped in that thing. It could definitely use some updating. There were many shops, restaurants and other hotels located nearby. The public bus came on the main road, you could get to the airport or Old San Juan on the bus but there were plenty of taxi vans available as well. The location was very convenient and not far from Old San Juan. I would recommend this place as a budget friendly location. Be prepared to pay extra fees,..There was a refundable $100 deposit and a $5 per person energy fee upon check in. They also charge $10 deposit for use of beach towels. The use of beach chairs is free but you gotta be out there early to snag you one!
The tides were too high for a swim and seaweed was close to the shore so the staff told us we could possibly swim at one of the nearby resorts. They are located a few steps from the Marriott and La Conchas two very large beautiful resorts. I think they should try to make some sort of deal with one of the larger resorts to allow guest to use their pools. They also have a bar but it is only open on weekends. I recommend this place for the budget traveler or backpacker that is not looking to spend a lot of money and doesn't need the frills! You can check out their website for more photos and rates here! A facebook friend recommended this place and one of their house specialties was Munfungo. I had heard of this dish but never had it. My thoughts were, there couldn't have been a better time or place to try it! The staff was friendly and attentive! I loved there outfits!!! The women wore all white long flowing skit outfits and white caps that reminded me of a pillow case. place was cozy and quaint with fun funky decor. We found the silverware in a small metal bucket on the table. We drank out of metal mugs with the company's logo! I chose the munfungo with shimp. I switched to yellow plantains instead of the green ones, had to pay a little extra but worth it. The mufungo was served in a medium sized Pilon with a plantain chip sticking out the side! My mouth is still watering as I think about the flavors of sweet plantains mashed in garlic butter served with plump juicy shrimp! Foodgasm alert!!! I also tried the Chuleta Kan Kan, that was a huge porkchop served with rice. Both dishes very flavorful! I left too full for dessert!!! In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger..."I'll be back! They have three locations Old San Juan, Cagus, and Hato Rey... The only airline I could find headed to my destination was Jet Blue. Upon booking my ticket I found their website easy to navigate. I checked in online and printed my boarding pass from home! I arrived at terminal 5 at JFK airport at about 10pm for a red eye that departed at 11:59pm. The security process was a breeze and I found the terminal easy to navigate. They had touch screen directory's just pass security. The terminal was very clean, well lit and had a lot of shops and restaurants. I liked the employee uniforms, navy blue with a pop of orange. I passed many employees smiling as they made eye contact with me. They played good pop music, I heard Michael Jackson playing in the terminal! They had alot of tv's an a kiddie play station too!

My flight departed about 15 minutes late. Mr. Friday, the gate agent made a couple announcements about the boarding being delayed. I was so tierd I'm not sure of the reason but we made it to Ponce on time. I remember his name because I though "Mr Friday is here helping me on Tuesday!" Yes, I admit I can be a bit corny, LOL!!! The flight was approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes. The flight crew was pleasant and attentive. After the drink service they offered free snacks and food for purchase. I was pretty stoked to see they serve Duncan Donuts coffee! The pamphlet in the seat back was very informative listing menu items and free movie selections. The announcements were made in both Spanish and English. I found that the flight attendants did a great job of coming back often to make sure everyones needs were met! Ponce has a very small airport with only three gates. It was very easy to navigate and find my party meeting me upon arrival! I truly enjoyed my first flight on Jetblue!!!

I was wondering what all the hype was about because I have seen their advertisements on the sides of buses and have friends that request an Uber pickup after a late night outing in Manhattan. I never really asked questions about it because I don't frequently call a cab. I normally call a local car service to get to work in the wee hours of the morning when you are more likely to see sketchy people roaming in the streets. Unfortunately I've had a lot of disagreements with the local guys because they are rude when I call and normally cannot give me an ETA. Worst yet they beep the horn and wake up the neighbors. Then I get stressed about having enough cash on hand to pay my cab fare. So I had a great painless experience using Uber. I didn't have to talk to anyone, I knew the name of the person coming, type of car to look for, when they would arrive and how much I would pay. I fee the service is very personalized and safe. They were reasonable compared to taking a yellow cab. I liked being able to get in the care and say "Good Morning Malek, thanks for coming to get me so quickly." Malek and I had a nice conversation in my 10 minute ride and I learned that anyone with a drivers license can become an Uber driver and make a nice income. The best part of this experience was I rode for FREE! I had a coupon for $20 off my first ride and my estimated fare was $15-$21 dollars. If I had paid, that ride would have cost me about $5 bucks more than the local guys but it was a lot less stress. I also received a coupon code to send my friends to get free or discounted rides! (Use my coupon code for your free ride today "angelaw2640ue") Sharing is caring!!! When you download the app we both can earn free rides! Here I thought this was just another expensive black car cab service; boy was I wrong! So let me give you some general information on Uber.

It is a 6 year old international transportation company that started in San Francisco and has been spreading from city to city like wildfires. Uber allows the customer to request a taxi, private car or rideshare from their app which you can download on most smart phones. The app is free to and it will connect you to a driver in minutes based on your GPS location.

You can use Uber in a few easy steps once you have downloaded the app.

First you need to set up a payment method using your credit or debit card or google wallet. Uber runs a cashless operation. Your fare is automatically deducted once you reach your destination. I have read their policy is no tipping because you don't need cash to ride with Uber.

Here are the steps when you are ready to request a ride...

1) login to the app

2) choose the type of service you need (i.e. uberpool, uberx, uberxl, uberblack, or suv, etc.)

3) tap to set pick up location (make sure your GPS is turned on)

4) tap plus sign next to pick up location to enter destination (you may request fare estimate or use promo code at this time)

5) tap request uber...(whatever type of vehicle you had previously selected)

After step 5 you will see cars on the map on the screen closest to your location. Once an Uber driver accepts your request you will receive the name and photo of your driver, make of car and an estimated time of arrival (ETA). Once you have been picked up you and the driver will get the same route so you may follow along from your phone. There is even an option to share your ETA with your friends and family.

Besides the beautiful beaches and the friendly people Rum Swizzle, Bermuda's National Drink will keep you coming back to the island! Rum Swizzle is made from Bermuda's own Gosling's Black Seal and Gold Rum mixed with various fruit juices. Click here to learn to make your own!
Today I stopped by The Swizzle Inn a very Historic Pub and Restaurant on the Island which opened their doors in 1932. The building was a homestead from the 1600's. It is located in Bailey's Bay at 3 Blue Hole Hill, about a stones toss from the Airport. They have a second location in Warwick the west end of the island. You can buy Swizzle by the cup, half a jug or full jug. They also carry coke products and milkshakes. The menu is quite extensive so it was hard to decide what to eat. After a chat with our server Megan assuring me everything was excellent, I ended up choosing the Wahoo Burger, it's a Swizzle Inn original recipe!!! Wahoo is a type of fish found in Bermuda that I tend to refer to as Yahoo fish as my friends laugh at me for never saying it properly. The burger is made of fresh ground wahoo seasoned with cilantro, lime and ginger topped with lettuce and tomato, served with salad or fries. I chose seasoned fries. Wahoo is a mild white fish. I'd recommend it for someone who's not really into fish but would like to try something different. The food was delicious and Megan was a great server! All the staff was friendly and welcoming! You are welcomed to leave your card on the pub walls. There are thousands of cards on the walls and hanging from the ceiling. They also have a gift shop called Swagger Out on the second floor where you may purchase souvenirs.
If your in Bermuda make sure to Swizzle Inn and
Swagger Out...that's their motto!!!

We asked a lot of question and the waiter took his time to answer them all. He was very knowledgeable about the menu items and sensitive to our needs based on food allergies.he even let me sample sake to see if I would like it before I place an order for. I ended up not liking it so he helped me save money. The staff truly made me feel welcomed like a guest at a friends house for dinner. This is one of the largest tourist attractions in New York during the holidays. The Plaza is located between 49th and 50th streets between 5th Ave and the Avenue of the Americas. Saks 5th Avenue has a projection light show going about every 5-10 minutes featuring the Yeti that has been rumored to live on Saks roof and make snow! I caught it on camera Click here to see the show! It was an exciting time with thousands of people enjoying the Tree, ice skating, the light show, shopping and other attractions in the area! Click here to see what I saw that night! I hope you all had a Happy Holiday Season and I wish you all the best for 2014 until next time Toodles!!!
I still love it! However it has been quite an adventure!!! I am a city girl but you never realize how spoiled the country can make you just doing day to day activities. Some might say life in the north (east) is just harder life. I'm going to say it's just different! I now catch the bus and train as opposed to driving a car. This was a choice because the public transportation is readily available here and the insurance and gas costs are high. I bought a metro card and every week I load $20 dollars on it to help me get around. There are many options for to pay for the bus or train. The first is by change, yes I said change and not cash because you must pay with coins bills are not accepted. The bus/ train for a single ride with a transfer costs $2.50. Could you imagine how heavy your pockets would be if you have to constantly have to carry change around?
Pay per ride where you can buy as many rides as you need starting with a minimum of $5. Unlimited ride where you get unlimited rides for a fixed price either for 7 days regular fare, 7 days express bus plus; 30 days regular fare; JFK Air Train 10 trip card or JFK Air Train 30 day unlimited ride card. When you first purchase a metro card there is a $1 service fee. You can go to the MTA Website to evaluate prices and determine which option would be best for you. I decided pay per ride works best for me I can add time and value to it at the MTA Vending machines or at the Station booth at anytime. When you spend more than $5 you also get a 5% bonus plus you get a free transfer with every ride.

I've decided I don't like the bus but prefer the train. My reason is that if I get lost and I'm walking down a street looking for a bus, chances are I look lost and that could make me susceptible to crime. I have heard many people say just the same about taking the train especially considering the numerous amount of homeless people loitering in and around train stations. A couple tools that have helped me is my android phone's GPS and a free app called NYC Bus and Train. When you are using GPS remember that once you are underground you will not be able to plot a route so do it before you swipe your metro card. The app I mentioned allows you to download a train map and you can download bus maps. These maps work without the use of internet or GPS.

One day I went shopping in Brooklyn and was headed back to Queens after dark. I forgot to pull up my route. I had a moment of panic because I was on a train route I was unfamiliar with and I couldn't connect to the internet from inside the train station. I had bags in my hand and I'm standing in the train station feeling like everyone knew I didn't know how to get home for all of 60 seconds. I re-grouped looked at the map and plotted my way using the NYC Bus and Subway Maps app. I was able to figure out from the Barclay Center I needed to take the R train to Jay street, transfer to the A train towards Canal st and then the E train towards Jamaica Center. The rule of thumb is to always pay attention to your surroundings, be armed with information, be prepared to defend yourself and know when to call for help. Happy Travels!
Until later Toodles!
I don't want to ride for 8 hours and have to get somewhere overnight. In the past I've met some creepy people and guys just released from prison.
so with that being said I think you understand my skepticism with riding the Greyhound bus I went online on my mobile and I looked up my trip from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania to New York Ave Manhattan at the 42nd Street Port Authority greyhounds price was 35 dollars before taxes and I also checked out Megabus their bus was $40 for the same trip Greyhound trip was a shorter distance shorter travel time and it left a little bit earlier so I chose to go with them also greyhound actually has a terminal for you to sit and wait. I was a little early baby almost an hour and a half early for the bus also when I got on Greyhound I was really surprised to see leather or vinyl siding very nice brand new motor coach and they had free wifi on the bus and they also have power outlets so I could keep my phone charged during my ride. I was impressed to say the least. The bus was clean and the staff was friendly and professional. We even arrived earlier than scheduled!!! Next time I can't drive or fly I will be happy to leave the driving up to Greyhound!!!Anjera Marihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07928855735505251595noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6364330291164729066.post-6391834135108821682013-11-26T21:14:00.001-08:002014-01-03T19:10:14.245-08:00I Love New York!

I just took a long deep breath in the cold damp night air. Ok I'm ready to finally saying it out loud " I MOVED TO NEW YORK CITY"!!! All I can think of is big buildings, bright lights, deli's on every block and yellow cabs buzzing through the streets! Do I take the A train from Brooklyn to Queens? How do I hope from JFK airport to LaGuardia airport? Will I go broke trying to have a decent meal in Manhattan? How do I avoid being pick pocketed? Can I be a chameleon in the big city and learn to blend in or will my adopted southern accent cause me hell? Will I go numb with the ridged temperatures and snow that I must now face?

I have always wanted to live in New York since college, that was over 12 years ago. I could never figure out how to make that transition. In my opinion New York is the city where dreams come true! No matter how many rats I've seen in subway stations or homeless people approach me on the street there is just something about New York that has lured me. I was able to take a transfer on my job that was also a promotion for me. My family and friends back in North Carolina think I am absolutely crazy! You would never believe how many people asked me " Do you know how expensive it is in New York?" I had a Google voice number with a New York exchange for at least five years because I wanted to have a local number when I applied for jobs! So I sold my car and most of my belongings in North Carolina and booked a one way ticket to New York!

I have been here for three days and To say the least I am ecstatic! Each day is a new adventure where I am faced with new challenges. I started work here yesterday. I am learning a lot and feel confident that I will breeze right through training. Everything is new to me right now, I'm in a new city, with a new job, and a new roommate! I don't know anything but excitement and that God will direct my path. I am so comfortable and fearless I'm sometimes taken a-back by my own bravery! When I breath in this cold, polluted air for some reason I feel right at home like this is where I was destined to be. Most people don't understand my joy and it's very hard to explain it. It's like falling in love it feels so good but you can't quite describe it. I feel so alive I don't want to sleep. I feel the urge to learn as much as I can about my surroundings.

Today I had to go to a training class. I had to figure out how to get to an off site location. I was reminded of the old saying "it never hurts to ask"! I look forward to many adventures in New York and I will share as many of them as I can with you! Until next time Toodles!

I love Chick-Fil-A! My favorite is the nuggets with polynesian sauce and carrot & raisin salad! Yummy, I'm drooling now! LOL. Anyway on a more serious note Today is Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day! I've been hearing all the buzz about Chick- Fil-A's President and COO Dan Cathy's comments in the news over the last few weeks. You can read the interview and actual comments yourself from The Biblical Recorder here. I don't understand why there have been petitions and proposed bans of Chick-Fil-A from entire cities! Huh??? Why has this become a government issue? Why is our society so insistent upon pushing government to have more control over us, what we can have, do, and eat? Mr. Cathy didn't say anything disrespectful or degrading. I think some people are being a little over sensitive. I applaud him for speaking out on what he believes and not being afraid that it could have a huge impact on his business. In my opinion today's world is full of hypocrites; people that sway with the wind depending on what benefits them. He just stands strong on what he believes. Is it so surprising that the owners of a business known to abide by biblical principles, who still remembers to keep the sabbath holy would have these views? Is this still America? It is Mr Cathy's 1st amendment right to voice his opinion. Yes it is also the people's 1st amendment right to protest if they disagree. If you don't like the Koolaid, don't drink it! Do we really need government officials saying certain cities can't have a Chick-Fil-A because of the owners personal views. To the mayors in Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, and Pittsburgh; If you plan to shut out Chick-Fil-A are local faith groups next? I think Malcolm X said it best..."If you don't stand for something you will fall for anything." I think Mr. Cathy is right to stand for what he believes , it is his witnesss. His organization has been around since 1946 operating on biblical principles; Why is it a problem in 2012? I admire and support Chick-Fil-A

I know its been a while but I'm still here working and traveling! I just got back from my third trip to Bermuda!!! Ahhhhhh I just LOVE that Island. I wish you could see the smile that suddenly forms every time I say BERMUDA! I get this feeling like I just fell in love with my soul mate and I'm the happiest girl in the world! Yes, that is home of the Bermuda Triangle and I have to admit I was a little reluctant to go there for that reason. My love for Bermuda was born June 3rd 2011. After receiving a call that interrupted the plans I hoped to have for the day I headed to the airport to with a new plan. I announced I wanted to go to an island to spend my birthday. I packed a backpack with a change of clothes a towel and a bathing suit! When I arrived at the airport I noticed the next three island flights scheduled to depart within the hour were to Jamaica (somewhere I'd been before), Turks and Caicos ( a bit on the pricey side for my fare) and lastly Bermuda ( where there's a boat and plane eating triangle). My decision was based on two things a suggestion from a woman I really admire who is the head honcho for my company and my fare was super cheap. For those of you that don't already know I work in the airline industry, so no I'm not rich or spoiled, my job just offers me the best perks! So Bermuda is a British overseas territory in the N. Atlantic Ocean, It's measured at about 25 square miles in legnth. You can drive the whole Island in about 45
minutes. It is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen! The water is the most beautiful blue (light and dark), they have pink sand beaches, colorful houses with white rooftops and the people are so friendly and welcoming!

Just before boarding the plane I grabbed a destinations magazine about Bermuda. The only thing I knew about the island was there is a Bermuda Triangle and I could disappear. I read that magazine backward and forward on the 2.5 hour flight. So when I arrived I at least had an idea of a hotel I could stay at and to ask for a Dark and Stormy or a Rum Swizzle when ordering a drink! What I didn't know was how expensive that hotel would be. I arrived at about 3pm (2pm est) after seeing the view from out the window I thought this must be heaven! I got through customs and I saw an employee thinking he may be able to help me find out the room rates for the hotel. This the point where things began to spiral out of control. After speaking with this man and having him call a couple of hotels I realized Bermuda is expensive! We were talking $300 and upwards a night! The man suggested a guest house or I could be a guest at his house once he confirmed with his wife. I was thinking "no way" I don't know this man, that is nice but too nice. Well the customs officer must have been listening to the conversation or I looked suspicious. They assumed that I may have been smuggling drugs into the country. I was sent to secondary customs to be searched. First my bags were searched while I was being questioned. They went through every shred of paper in my purse even receipts. Then I was taken to a back room where I was searched and the drug dog was brought in to sniff around. That was a very scary situation to be in. I knew I was innocent but I started wondering if something had been planted on me. Once they figured out there were no drugs, customs released me into the hands of immigration's. They questioned me about why I had the phone number of the employee I meet earlier and why I didn't have a confirmed hotel room. So they tried to bring him into things and accuse him of doing something wrong. I finally asked to be sent back to the USA, since they had denied me entry to their country. That was not possible because the last flight was preparing for departure. So they agreed to assist me with finding accommodations. After calling a few expensive places someone suggested Brightside Guest Apartments where rooms were available for about $140/ night! So I finally got cleared for entry into Bermuda after over 2.5 hours of questioning!
(update starts here) So I walk out
into the warm sunshine of Bermuda take a deep breath thinking "I'm free"
and there is the guy I met earlier that worked in the airport waiting
to greet me! He was so apologetic for my situation and offered to show
me around. That was the beginning of an awesome friendship. (Note: I do
not suggest you run off to other countries and hang out with
strangers.) I had the chance to see Hamilton aka Downtown Bermuda, John

I finally had the opportunity to visit a place I have wanted to see since middle school! Japan; Tokyo and Okinawa!!! My fascination with Japanese culture was sparked by my pen pal in the 7th grade. She used to send me origami, the paper was very colorful folded into intricate designs. I remember anticipating her letters eager to see the latest origami art. My sister studied Japanese in 6th grade and she taught me a couple words and to count to ten. Konnichiwa means hello or good afternoon and arigato means thank you! These terms followed by a smile were what got me through most of my trip.
I flew from Charlotte to San Francisco almost five hours and from there into Tokyo Narita airport for almost eighteen hours. Lastly a three hour flight to my first stop, Okinawa. I stayed at the Best Western Inn Naha which was 18 minutes away from the Naha International Airport on the monorail. I didn't realize how convenient it was to catch the Yuki Rail (monorail) when I got there so I took a cab. I would suggest the Yuki Rail from the airport to Asato Station. When you come down the steps the hotel is there next to the Seven-Eleven convenience store.
It was affordable, the room was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful!
The hotel was located right at the entrance of the Yuki Rail which we took to go to Shuri Castle and the mall! It was also in walking distance to Kokusai Dori aka International Road, a mile long stretch of shops and restaurants.
We also visited The American Village home of many shops, restaurants and the
iconic Ferris Wheel. The best part of the village for me was Fish Therapy. This is a process like a pedicure that you put your feet in a pool with tiny fresh water fish called Garra Rufa and they nibble away old skin cells, I don't know about the claim to reveal beautiful skin but my feet felt a little smother and more relaxed after a day full of walking. While in the American Village I also tried a Japanese treat made out of purple sweet potatoes called Ben Imo. I learned that Japanese sweets are not really all that sweet. They had ice cream flavors in Ginger, Green tea, red beans etc. I didn't find any of that appealing so I skipped deserts.
We had dinner at a place called Bikkuri Donkey: Hamburger Steak Restaurant that translates in English to The Confused Donkey! I loved this place the decor was awesome! It looked like a wooden shack and I assumed it was more of a hole in the wall type place at first. Upon entering we found this was a nice family restaurant with its own charm and delicious hamburger steaks!
A friend recommended the place that looks like a big house that sits on 7th street not far from Uptown near CPCC's campus on the east side of town. You must make a reservation! I thought that was strange when I called to inquire but the lady on the phone was very friendly and I got a reservation for the same evening only 30 minutes later than the time I called. When I walked in I immediately felt like I had just entered the someone's home where I had been invited for a dinner party. There was art on the the walls of people with alligator heads and Mardi Gras masks and colorful decor. We were seated quickly and immediately given drinks and bread. I skipped appetizers and ordered a cup of gumbo and an entree' called Diane with mushrooms, garlic, butter, parsley, green onions shrimp, chicken and crawfish and the Queen's Magic Spices served over a bed of rice. I had bourbon pecan pie for desert. A live band started playing shortly after we ordered playing jazz just like you hear in the French Quarter. For that short time on a Saturday evening in Charlotte I could have sworn I was in New Orleans from the time I enter the doors of the Cajun Queen until the time I left! I had great food and great service in a quaint atmosphere at an affordable price! Hi Friends,
I had the most exciting weekend excursion! My friend and I went to Rome, Italy basically to eat Gelato (Italian ice cream)! I stayed at the Sandy Hostel with is in walking distance to everything. We caught a train from the airport to Termini Roma for $15 Euro. Termini Roma is is the transit station a very busy and exciting area. There are shops and restaurants surrounding this place. We walked to the hostel on Via Cavour which was about a ten minute walk just past Santa Maria Maggiore. We had a small private ensuite. No frills. It was clean, came with bed linens and private bathroom. It was fairly difficult for me when trying to book hotels on a budget in Rome. They charge per person per night. So my accommodations ran about $50 euro per person per night. We were close to many stores and resturants and about a 7 minute walk from the Colosseum! The weather was great the first day it was sunny and warm the second day it rained but was still warm temperatures. We saw Santa Maria Maggiore, the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, Palistine Hill, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, The Pantheon and more! We ate gelato twice a day and food once a day! We visited the oldest Gelata Factory in Rome; Giavonni Fassi. If you are in Rome you must visit this place. It is not far from Termini Roma!
